The first thing to keep in mind is the age and condition of the dog. Young dogs should be brought along slowly so that they develop their physical skills. On older dogs, becareful not to over exert them beyond their abilities. After that, it is just getting out there and trying it. All competitions have novice level categories, and you should take the opportunity to get your feet wet as soon as possible.
